was targeted. >> at this point, it appears to be completely random. like many cities in the bay area, residential burglaries are on the rise and have been for quite a while. >> reporter: a helicopter and search dog were unable to locate the suspects. and officers have only a vague description of the three men. however, they were able to recover some of the personal effects that were stolen. they were dropped during the chase. live in antioch, christin ayers, cbs 5, we are following a developing story in the east bay. police are investigating a shooting at the pittsburg-bay point bart station. now, bart authorities say they got the first call just before 7:00 tonight. they found the victim in the parking lot. he was taken to john muir medical center in walnut creek with life-threatening injuries. bart police have not released any information on the victim or possible suspects. the shooting investigation caused major delays for bart riders. >>> crime in oakland is out of control. but tonight, health is on the way. a former big city police chief has been hired to offer the city some sol

of the city and it's treacherous surf. this stretch of coastline is where a man and child were swept to sea and drowned. they were found floating under the golden gate bridge. late this afternoon, around 4:00, a third person, who was also taken out by the waves, was able to get out of the surf and call 911. >> rescue units shortly arrived within 25 minutes and recovered two bodies, one male adult and one child. >> reporter: the water, a chilly 53 degrees. there was a high surf advisory today. he says the beach is popular for fishing and picnicking. it's also dangerous. when the victims went in, it was getting dark. >> we do have 14 lifeguards, seasonal lifeguards on staff, for just these reasons. last year, they conducted over 70 saves. >> reporter: but no rescue tonight. the bodies were recovered and taken to fort baker. now an investigation into the deaths begin. >> our national parks are beautiful but they're unforgiving. >> reporter: and the names of the victims have not been released, but officials tell me they were relatives. >>> new at 11, a two-alarm fire burns out one apartment and

residents returned while crews with the city worked through the night on repairs. wheeling in truckloads of sandbags. by christmas day hundreds lined the levee as more rain set in. even more sandbags were seen stacked outside of homes mixed in with holiday decorations. >> how high tide is coming. >> kids wake up thinking they'll have to help their parents clean out their front yards and clean up the cars. they want to go outside and play with their gifts. >> reporter: people who live in this house were forced to spend christmas away from home. their house is unsafe because electrical outlets were affected. today they stayed low. the city is working with engineers on a long term solution and a project to increase the capacity of the creek should begin next year. until then, residents will be keeping a close eye on the levee. >> we had a bad christmas. so we was ready to let it go and not think about it any more. move on with life. >> aside from the sandbags crews excavated the areas around the leaks and refilled them. behind me is the creek. we've been keeping a close eye on it tonight. t
